Somatic Experiencing (SE)

2327421067Your body remembers why you feel anxious.

When talk therapy isn’t enough, your body tells the truth. You may have spent years working on your mindset – analyzing patterns, journaling, and attending therapy. Yet, you still feel anxious for no reason.

You still shut down under pressure. When you walk into a room, your chest tightens before anything happens. This is not a failure of logic. It’s the language of your nervous system.

When trauma or chronic stress isn’t fully processed, your body stays on high alert, even when your mind says, “You’re okay.”

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a powerful, body-based approach to trauma healing that helps your system finally complete the stress cycle so that you can live with calm, presence, and resilience.

What are the signs of unprocessed stress and trauma?

Your nervous system sends signals loud and clear. Even with small tasks, you get overwhelmed easily.

When stressed, your muscles are tense; your breathing becomes shallow; and you freeze, dissociate, or feel “foggy” under stress.

Even in safe environments, you have trouble sleeping or relaxing. You’re hyper-aware of others’ moods or energy. You feel emotionally flooded or completely numb.

SE doesn’t ask you to explain all of this – it helps you release it through slow, safe body awareness and regulation.

2592449901What is Somatic Experiencing?

Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, SE is a trauma resolution method that focuses on the nervous system, specifically how it holds on to incomplete survival responses (like fight, flight, or freeze).

In our sessions, we’ll gently tune into the signals your body is sending, such as tension, shallow breathing, temperature shifts, and internal movements. These are all clues from your system, guiding us toward healing.

You won’t be forced to relive trauma. Instead, you’ll learn to listen to your body quickly and respond with curiosity and care.

By working with the body, not against it, you reset your baseline from survival to safety.

Rest is possible without feeling a sense of guilt or urgency.

Moving through stress can occur without spiraling, and you start to feel more grounded, embodied, and aware.

Learning to say no without panic becomes easier, and you can experience joy or pleasure without shutting down.

You can trust your body again, even if it’s been a while.

Why do I use SE in my practice?

For many clients, Somatic Experiencing is the missing piece – the part of therapy that finally addresses what’s happening under the surface.

It’s gentle, intuitive, and deeply respectful of your pacing.

We won’t rush your system. We’ll build safety together.

And as we do, you’ll experience life differently – not as a threat to survive, but as something you can fully inhabit.

Your body is trying to heal. Let’s help it.

If you’re tired of being stuck in cycles of shutdown, overwhelm, or reactivity, your mind knows better, but your body won’t let go. If you’re ready to feel safe, calm, and whole again, Somatic Experiencing might be the right next step.

Let’s gently begin.
